Homemade Seasoning Salt

Ah, yes. The most versatile yet delicious flavor combination in my kitchen is seasoning salt. And we all know the traditional brand to add to past generation’s dishes. You know, the brand that rhymes with Dowry’s. Speaking of a dowry, my wedding is in 9 weeks!

I digress.

Seasoning salt is wonderful. I have been obsessed with the stuff recently. Think about this – have you ever read the ingredients of your traditional seasoning salt? There are a lot of words that you can’t pronounce let alone justify eating. I’ve devised a homemade seasoning salt recipe to add to any savory dish your heart desires. My best recommendations are oven fries, chicken (baked or fried), and pretty much any vegetable you’re roasting or braising. Do not let the measurements scare you, this recipe is meant to last.

The recipe is as follows:

Two tablespoons kosher salt

Two tablespoons chicken salt (order online if cannot find in stores)

Packed tablespoon light brown sugar

Two tablespoons pepper

Two heaping tablespoons garlic powder

Two tablespoons paprika (not smoked)

1/2 teaspoon cayenne

1 tablespoon dried lemon zest, crushed fine

Use all kosher salt for a vegetarian version of this. Mix all together in a bowl and enjoy the lovely flavor dance on your palate!
